First of all, Happy Memorial Day! I hope you are all having a nice day with your families and thinking of all of those we have lost that this day honors. Memorial Day always reminds me of cook outs and my favorite cook out food, hot dogs!
A little over a year ago my husband, Tom, started going to lunch at a place called Maui Dog and told me all about the unique hot dogs they served there. I LOVE hot dogs, so I was intrigued, and I was also amazed that Tom was eating hot dogs with coconut and pineapple on them. I had to go!
The delicious hot dog you see below is called the "Island Dog" and is topped with chipotle garlic mayo, maui mustard, coconut sauce, pineapple and BACON!
Sadly Maui Dog did not survive, these are tough times for new restaurants. I really want to try and recreate this hot dog, so I will let you know if I am successful and share the ingredients. The spicy mustard and coconut sauce will be the tricky part.
What is your favorite cook out or BBQ food?
Wow, what a combination! I am not a huge fan of hot dogs.. But I guess it's because I have only ever had the sausage in a bun variation. This, I could probably go for :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a unique combination that I am certain I would LOVE!!
ReplyDeleteRIP Maui Dog. I love hot dogs. When I was a kid in Maine (and still today) the hot dog buns have cut sides allowing you to toaste the sides of the buns. Filled with grilled onions, a good hot dog and all the other stuff on top.. heaven.
ReplyDeleteThose buns were good as lobster or crab rolls too. :)
Nothing you can do to make this hot dog more decadent and perfect :D

That hot dog is seriously loaded! In an awesome way.
ReplyDeleteToo bad that place closed. I can't believe your hubs ate that!! Wowza! ;) My favorites to grill are brats, corn on the cob and steak :)
ReplyDeleteAgain, amazed that you took photos of all your faves! So smart, esp since you can no longer get things like this hot dog. This is one that sounds like I might not like it, but one I would definitely try b/c I love trying new and weird combos. It def looks amazeballs! :) I love burgers from the grill--simple, but I'm really a huge burger girl.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds to me that your husband might just be a more adventuresome eater than he will admit - but then of course, if he did admit it, you'd have to change the name of your blog! What fun sounding hot dogs!
ReplyDeleteI love hotdogs too but don't eat them often enough. I had a really delicious one at Wahlburgers (the restaurants owned by the Wahlberg brothers) and I keep craving it!
ReplyDeleteOMG, what an amaze balls combination of food! Sweet, savory, spicy - all on top of a hot dog - if you find or create your own recipe for this - you have to share! :D
ReplyDeleteThere are so many delicious ways to serve up a hot dog. I love hot dogs myself. Catherine
ReplyDeleteI have not had a hotdog in a couple years. I need to make this soon. YUM
ReplyDeleteHmmm! That hot dog looks great! I recently had hot dogs at Costco, and it is not even close to that delicious thing... :-(
