I have to preface this entry by saying that I have not had pizza in New York City, Chicago or Italy, but the very best pizza I have ever had was in Amsterdam. My husband and I went there on our honeymoon in 2008 and we fell in love with this pizza place.
Prior to our honeymoon, my husband had been to the Netherlands and Belgium several times with his family as his Dad worked for KLM and other travel related companies. He always raved about how good the pizza was. I wondered how much better can it be, really?
Well the first time this was placed in front of me I figured it out pretty quick.
We just got plain cheese every time because you do not need to have anything else on the pizza when all the ingredients are fresh and delicious. They make the pizza right in front of you in this tiny little restaurant off of Dam Square. I am really excited to post this entry because we just booked another trip to the Netherlands for the fall. The pizza is on my list of things to do the DAY we arrive.
What is the best pizza you ever ate?
It was at Pizzera Uno in Chicago years ago when I was in college. It was a deep dish pie and it was fabulous. I'll wager you are looking forward to your trip next fall. I hope you have a great day. Blessings...Mary
ReplyDeleteFor me, the best pizza comes from a brewery in Marshall Michigan - Dark Horse. Chicken White Sauce, Alfredo sauce, grilled chicken, roasted pepper, tomato & mozzarella, with some crumbled bacon thrown on top. I never thought I was going to find a pizza so good in the mid-west until I found this while working in the little town. Marshall is about a 4 hour drive from Chicago (home) and well worth the drive. Before that, the best pizza came from a chain in California that I grew up with :-)
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've had a pizza I didn't like. I can't really pinpoint a favorite pizza though. I would like to find the place that Teresa (above) mentioned though, I'll have to look up Marshall, MI :)
ReplyDeleteI know where I am going to eat if I ever visit Amsterdam! The pizza looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteBeing from Chicago, I've had Uno's, Gino's East, Giordano's, but Lou Malnati's is hands down the best deep dish pizza I've ever eaten. While I am usually a thin crust kinda girl - this one is a winner.
ReplyDeleteI used America's test kitchens to recreate it at home - yes, you actually spread butter in the dough to get that buttery consistency - I am actually making it again this Friday - I plan on making the dough in the morning before work and finishing it when I get home.

The best is having the layer of sausage so you get it in every bite.
I've had many, many slices of great pizza, so it's hard to choose just one - but I did have a fantastic slice in Milan! This looks mouth-watering.
ReplyDeletePizza is a favorite of mine. It is always a treat. Blessings, Catherine
ReplyDeletethat pizza definetly looks perfect, I'm actually making pizza on friday, now I'm really excited about it
ReplyDeleteBest pizza ever...that's tough. But I'm partial to my dad's homemade pizza....YES even above NYC pizza!
ReplyDeleteThat's so wow that such a plain pizza can be so good because of the quality of ingredients! You're giving me pizza envy. Um, I'm a little more low-class with my best pizza-it's the Chicago Seven from Old Chicago. :)
