Favorite Things #41 - New Restaurant Finds

One of the things I wanted to do over our time off of work was to try a new restaurant that was outside of our little area we always frequent. Tom was in when I told him I based my Yelp search on the word 'taco'. I found a place called La Condesa Gourmet Taco Shop and saw that they have a salsa bar that is stocked with about a dozen different salsas they make in house.

The salsas they offer range from traditional red and green salsas to varieties like pecan salsa, jicama salsa and even a peanut salsa. They were all great, but the pecan was definitely my favorite.

I ordered a Mayan Cochinita Pibil Taco and a Oaxaca Black Mole Chicken Taco. Both were amazing, but the mole was definitely my favorite. Tom got 2 Gaucho Steak tacos with Chimichurri and a Sonoran Carne Asada Taco. He loved his too. We actually liked this place so much that we invited some friends and went back a couple of days later.

So in 2013 I resolve to try some more new places outside of our usual neighborhood and comfort zone. Not sure how many of these trips Tom will be willing to take but I am hoping this is the year he turns a culinary corner. Cross your fingers for me.

  1. Good luck! A salsa bar sounds amazing! And pecan salsa ... I am intrigued! Sounds good!

  2. Good luck with the resolution - baby steps! My fingers are crossed! Happy new year.

  3. Sounds like you're doing a good job of convincing your Tom to try new things. This restaurant sounds like something we would love! Pecan Salsa? wow!

  4. OMG, too many onions!! (hee hee!) Hope Tom takes the culinary challenge this year - believe it or not Rhonda, 10 years ago the only vegetables I ate were carrots and cucumbers - I hated all other vegetables.

When I met my husband I realized the reason I didn't like vegetables was because my Mom overcooked them! The first time I had crisp tender broccoli and asparagus I was in heaven!

Hmmm..pecan salsa - never heard of that one - sounds delicious.

    Have a great weekend!

  5. Discovering new local places to eat is always a great experience. You are bound to find a gem that you did not know existed.

I can dig a great taco bar! Good luck on your resolution for 2013.

  6. A taco bar sounds great! There is not a lot of places around here to eat, besides fast food and bars. We have ate at the bars but, it was nothing spectacular. We have to go into the next bigger city to get good food. I think I should get John to do this too!! :) And good luck with Tom!!

  7. Love trying new restaurants, and those tacos do sound delish! I think I would have taken a taste of each and every salsa! lol

  8. We tend to go to same places too but sometimes there are nice finds like this! It's nice that you found a new place to dine...and yes these tacos look delicious!!
