Several years ago I started visiting the various Asian markets in the Phoenix area and was always amazed at the products in their bakery. Cute little buns that seemed to be stuffed with all sorts of interesting things. I finally decided to give one a try and selected the 'custard bun'. I was forever changed...
Ok that is a little dramatic, but seriously, these things are amazing. A light flaky bun with just the slightest sweetness filled with a thick and creamy custard. It is heavenly but it is a giant carb and fat bomb! That is why I consider this one of my guilty pleasures, something to enjoy once every few months with a nice strong cup of coffee.
What is your guilty pleasure food?
Guilty pleasure food would be pizza. I love pizza! Piled with lots of greasy pepperoni and cheese, that's what I call heavenly :)
ReplyDeleteI love the custard buns, too,but my favorite guilty pleasure is a truly well-made scone. I hope you are having a great day. Blessings...Mary
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good bakery to me! I ate my way through many an Italian bakery in Chicago. The custard buns are fabulous! My guilty pleasure is ice cream.
ReplyDeleteYum! I love moon cakes - the red bean or taro buns. Delicious. My guilty pleasure is cheap delivery Mexican food... I get it at least once a week! Nothing like a big ole' burrito at my door in under 10 minutes.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I love your header and I'm wondering where that is...
ReplyDeleteHey Pam, my header photo is Amsterdam, where I will be heading back to in November for vacation. I am obviously getting excited :)
DeleteHow much do you pay for that coffee? I'm wondering if I could get it for you for cheaper?
ReplyDeleteI got the coffee for $4.99 for the tin at the Asian market, strange place to find it :)
DeleteI don't think I can get it cheaper then that. :)
DeleteBeautiful new header! I love European pastries too but I also like less sweet Asian bread/pastries - especially savory ones too. :) Custard ones are my favorite too!
ReplyDeleteMy Dad was also diabetic, but rarely gave a thought about what he ate - he just gave himself more insulin!
ReplyDeleteAbout once a week, he'd come home from Dunkin Donuts with a bag of apple fritters - light fluffy donut, with a glaze and bits of apple in between - my mouth is watering as I write this!
Oh my oh my, I'm going to have to see if I can find something like that here. One of my favorite thing is a cheese danish and this sounds like a very cool version of that. The Asian market I usually frequent I don't believe have pastries but maybe I just never saw them b/c I wasn't looking. They sound so good.
ReplyDeleteMy guilty pleasure food is chocolate eclairs. The ones I love come in packs of four and while it is my intention to only eat one per day, I usually devour the whole pack in less than two days. Therefore, I only buy them once a year or so.
I was thinking a lot regarding this topic, so thanks for bringing it up here. You certainly have a good writing style i like, so will be subscribing to your blog.spiritual food
ReplyDeletereligion and food
Ooooh I LOVE custard buns! Luckily there is not a place convenient enough to go and buy them often.
ReplyDeleteMy guilty pleasure? Pasta, pasta, and more pasta.
