Simple Crock Pot Kielbasa

Growing up in Western PA I ate a lot of pierogies, sauerkraut and kielbasa. Kielbasa is a smoked sausage and is available in most grocery stores. I was very excited when I saw some Boar's Head kielbasa on 'Managers's Special' at my local store and I snatched it right up.

For this recipe you do not need much at all, just a crock pot and a few ingredients.

ingredients
Kielbasa, sauerkraut, potatoes and a beer.

potatoes
Chop up your potatoes into bite sized pieces.

kielbasa
Do the same with your kielbasa.

Simple Crock Pot Kielbasa
Layer in the potatoes, kielbasa and top with sauerkraut then pour the beer over the whole thing. Pop on the lid and let it cook on low for about 6 hours.

After 6 hours you are ready to eat. You can mash up the potatoes if you want or just serve them as is. This is the ultimate in comfort food for me and reminds me of being a kid. I am glad I was exposed to all kinds of foods when I was younger.

Have you had kielbasa before?

  3. Oh that looks good. I grew up on kielbasa and sauerkraut (in California!). Sausage/kielbasa isn't something I'd normally buy or eat now that I'm an adult but this is making me HUNGRY!

  4. Can I come and have dinner with you? I'm serious, I'm the only one in my family who likes sauerkraut - that's the ONLY thing about my family that I don't like :)

  7. Love kielbasa, this is such an easy, yet tasty dish. I'm putting it on the menu this week. Everytime I'm at a wedding I try to remember to make this and then forget about it. Thanks for the reminder :)

  8. You had me at sauerkraut!! Holy yum, cannot wait to make this - and this would be my "dining alone" meal - my husband doesn't even like the smell of sauerkraut and I can eat it cold out of the jar.

I saw over the weekend - I think on Diners Drive Inns and Dives - a sliced kielbasa reuben sandwich - it looked so good!

Okay, now I want a reuben!

  9. Wow, real kielbasa! The "kielbasa" we have is already fully cooked and probably tastes nothing like the real thing! This sounds really super delicious. The one time I tried doing something like this (I think it was the brown eyed bakers recipe, which has beer and brown sugar along with the kielbasa and saurkraut, but no potatoes), I used what I found (fake kielbasa!) and it was nasty! No wonder.

  10. Our Dillons grocery store puts those exact same mark-down stickers on our meat products. Love the discounted section! :)
