I think I have mentioned several times on the blog that I am from Western PA. That means that during football season I am cheering for the Steelers, and usually missing home. I was so happy to discover a great site called Stello Foods that carries a wide variety of food, most of which is made in PA. I placed an order and got my items super fast and in perfect condition, and the shipping was not expensive.
So now I can make some BBQ chip chopped ham and enjoy some PA hot sauce while I watch the Steelers.
What is your favorite local food from where you are now or where you grew up?
My favorite local food from where I grew up is actually something most of the country enjoys - the Bartlett Pear! I grew up in what is listed as "The Pear Capitol of the World". At one point in time, ALL the Bartlett pears that were eaten in the USA came from the county I was raised in. For a very long time, I could not stand them (had way too many of them as a kid) but now, I crave for them (guess it takes moving to do that). I refuse to buy them in the stores if they come from any place but California and will only buy them when they are in season (like now).
ReplyDeleteI actually had to google "bbq chip chopped ham" because I didn't know what the hell it was?! Sounds. . . interesting??
ReplyDeleteChicago is known for its deep dish pizza, and I am happy to say that my homemade version is just as good as any pizza joint.

I don't know of any big local companies with product lines like that! I guess in KS, you get your local stuff at the farmer's market--no professional jars. I get local honey in jars, so I guess that's my favorite local product. So good!
