German Style Beef Ribs with Mashed Potatoes

I have been taking time off of work to attend some MLB Spring Training games since the SO and I both love baseball and we have a couple of fields close to our home. This has been a great reason to keep using the crock pot. I put the food in around 10am and its ready by the time I get home from the game. Here is another that I will have some leftover ideas for later this week.

I do some prep work the night before including:

Slice up an onion, I think this is a record for not using shallots in recipes for me!

Put your onions in the fridge. Endure an entire evening of the SO saying WOO it smells like onions every time he opens the door.

Don't forget to season when you are slow cooking. Season all your layers when you are cooking with the crockpot as moisture develops in the pot as it cooks and can dilute your flavors.

lets start making the sauce. grab some red wine.

this sauce ends up having a kick, it was great.

remember to keep your brown sugar in the freezer and then pull it out just a few minutes before you need it.

delicious vinegar

worcestershire sauce. having my sister say or spell this is very amusing . Growing up we just called this 'meat sauce'.

mustard

chili powder, I really need to try Penzey's.

Get everything in the bowl and mix it up

Pop a lid on it and stick it in the fridge.

The next morning get out your ribs.

grab your onions

put the ribs in and hit them with salt and pepper on both sides.

Pour on the sauce

spread the onions over the beef

put the lid on and go have fun for 5-6 hours.

just before its time to eat get your corn starch and water mixed up. mixing it with the water is a lot easier and you don't end up with clumps.

cute little BT mixing glass. add the cornstarch and water and turn the crockpot up to high and make your side dish.

Here is my cheating side dish!

and the bonus! These are german style ribs so I am having a beer with my dinner.

viola!!

The sauce turned out spicy and great, the meat was falling apart and the onions were delicious.

The beer was great too :)

  2. Scott would also LOVE this too. I'll just forget to tell him about the dry mustard (whoops!). I've never tried boneless beef ribs. I'll have to start searching for them.

I love that you match your beer with the appropriate glass...excellent presentation!
