I think that I am an adventurous eater and I have tried a lot of things that people give me funny looks about like beef cheeks and tripe. I tend to like pretty much all foods but I do have a few things that I just cannot stand.
1. Cilantro - this stuff is just nasty. It tastes like dish soap to me. I have read articles about how some people can taste the soap and to other people it is delicious. I had never had the stuff until I moved to AZ and found it was in a lot of the Mexican dishes. I hated it from the first time I tried it. I can tolerate a minimal amount in chimichurri or salsa, but that is it.
2. Bananas - this one is odd, I don't mind banana flavor, I just can't peel and eat a banana. Even the smell of a fresh peeled banana kind of makes me gag.
3. Black licorice - this is just a horrible flavor to me. I think its the medicinal aspect of it or perhaps an acquired taste.
And now that you know all about the things I don't like, I leave you with a photo of one of my favorite foods in the whole world...
CHEESE!
Do you have a food or foods you really dislike?
I know most people either like cilantro or really don't. I do like it. I think KFC's gravy taste like soap, always have thought that. Not a fan of bananas either and my potassium is always low, people always say, "Eat a banana"...no thanks! Plus, there are things much higher in potassium than bananas. I love cheese. I'm writing this eating macaroni and cheese :)
ReplyDeleteCould you imagine how much damage you and I would do at a cheese market?!! Holy moly!
ReplyDeleteI worked with a woman who described cilantro as tasting like the bottom of a bird cage. I happen to love it.
And cheese - I love cheese! :D
How funny. Cilantro is my very favorite herb but I can't stand rosemary. I love bananas and I also love black licorice.
ReplyDeleteCheese (any kind) is my favorite!
My mom says the same thing about cilantro tasting like dish soap. I like it in small doses. Black licorice is sooooo disgusting to me as well. I'm with you on cheese! Ill try any kind!
ReplyDeleteI am not a fan of bananas...the smell and texture just do not work for me! But I do love cilantro...maybe it's the Indian in me? :)
ReplyDeleteI can't stand black licorice either. It's so gross!
ReplyDeleteI can't stand garlic... people say I am crazy, but I hate the taste, smell, sour breath and upset stomach that follows... LOL
ReplyDeleteI thought of you today Rhonda - I bought a whole wedge of Brie for 50% off - whoop!
ReplyDeleteI am not a fan of cilantro or black licorice either.
ReplyDeleteI know a lot of people who don't like cilantro...but i have heard that if you keep trying it bit by bit you can start to like it!
ReplyDeleteBlack licorice = EWW. Also celery. Ugh.
OH I can totally relate on black licorice! I just don't know why it's so tasty... but it's probably same thing as let's say... matcha to some people. :D
ReplyDeleteI can TOTALLY relate about Cilantro and living in Southern Calif I get it in everything! I am alwasy asking to have the cilantro removed from whatever recipe or menu item I choose. I try to eat a banana a day however.
ReplyDeleteI am going to try your chinese beef receipe. it looks yummy. Thanks!
Ruth
I've heard that cilantro tastes like soap to some and my hubby is like that, but not as strong. I can use it in my homemade salsa and he doesn't mind, but prefers if I leave it off as a garnish on Indian food and out of the chili. I love it! I only like bananas that still have some green on them if I'm going to eat them straight, otherwise I make banana bread with them.
ReplyDeleteAnd black licorice can be an acquired taste. I used to hate it but hubs loves it so I'd try it every time he got some. Now I really like it, though I'll never just go out and buy some just for myself. :) I'm with you on the cheese! Bring it on! Except goat cheese. This is my #1 detested food - I just can't like anything about it. Makes me sad b/c so many people love it and wish I could to. It makes me want to die.
I also cannot stand cilantro.
ReplyDeleteI am allergic to raw bananas.
Black licorice comes straight from the devil.
Cheese is the best and most perfect food. I have tried many different kinds of cheeses, including some horribly stinky ones, and I have never had one I didn't like.
